A Treasure Trove of Inspiration
Welcome to the beginning of something extraordinary here at Twisted Ginger Jewelry. If you've ever wondered about the magic that goes into creating each piece, you're in for a treat. Every month, I dive into the many treasures I've collected over the years, looking for inspiration that feels just right. Whether it's heirloom-quality stones, vintage ceramics, or even skulls, each mini-collection I create is a journey into the unknown—a new adventure waiting to unfold.
This month, I found myself irresistibly drawn to some vintage ceramics with a story as rich as the colors in their eternal glaze.
The Story of Luning: A Ghost Town's Hidden Gems
These ceramics were discovered in the desert in a little ghost town called Luning, Nevada. Once a bustling mining town, Luning was tragically burnt to the ground in 1884. But from its ashes, a new kind of treasure emerged. The husband and wife silversmith & lapidary team at Deep Well Designs, who are as passionate about history as I am, found these remnants and lovingly shaped them into cabochons—beautifully polished stones that we silversmiths transform into wearable art.
From Ceramics to Cabochons: The Art of Transformation
What's particularly fascinating about these ceramics is their history. Some pieces still bear makers' marks, hinting at their origins and giving us a glimpse into a time long past. The dates on these pieces suggest they were crafted at the height of Luning's prosperity, making them not just jewelry components but little pieces of history. The transformation from discarded ceramic shards to polished cabochons is a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship involved, and it's a process that never fails to inspire me.
Vintage Dreamscapes: A Journey Through Time
As I work on Vintage Dreamscapes, I find myself blending my love for the elegance of the Titanic era with my passion for innovative, futuristic design. This collection captures the essence of a time gone by while looking boldly toward the future. Each piece is crafted from these antique ceramics, some dating as far back as the 1800s and 1900s, and they're more than just jewelry—they're stories you can wear, connecting you to the rich past and the limitless possibilities of the future. The collection's unique blend of past and future will make a unique statement in the world of jewelry trendsetting.
Crafting the Future: The Early Stages of Design
I'm in the early stages of bringing this collection to life. I'm sketching, imagining, and playing with the possibilities. Will these ceramics become lockets, pendants, or brooches? I don't know yet, but each piece will carry the weight of history and the sparkle of a bright, colorful future. Vintage Dreamscapes is all about crafting jewelry that feels like it's traveled through time, perfect for those who appreciate timeless elegance and bold individuality.
