In the 1960s and 70s, Alaskan beach sand was smelted for its gold content, and the slag left behind became something unexpected: a gold-infused glass with a rich, saturated red that couldn't be replicated. Rosa Rita is no longer produced—modern refining methods extract nearly all the gold, leaving only unremarkable clear slag. What remains from those earlier decades is all there will ever be.
