This one started with a ring that already existed. A grandmother's opal, loved long enough that it set the standard for everything after it. When the conversation turned to what came next, opal was never really in question. The only question was which one.
The stone chose the rest. Violet across the face, cool and deep, with ribbons of aqua and green running through it on the diagonal like light traveling across water. Plum shows up in the upper reaches when your hand turns. Boulder opal forms inside ironstone, and that host rock is the reason the color sits the way it does, bright on top of something solid. It is not the blue of high noon. It is the blue that arrives just after the sun goes down and stays a little while, when the water has gone quiet and is still holding the last of the light.

Three graduated silver drops rise along each side, small to large, cresting toward the stone. A smooth bezel holds the opal without a single distraction. The split shank parts at the shoulders, travels around the stone, and comes back together on the other side, which is what water does when it meets something it cannot move through.
