Some pieces choose you before you choose them.

This one did exactly that. We found it together at the Tucson gem show, going back and forth through a table of stones until this particular white buffalo stopped everything. The stone is mostly cream and white at the top, and then that dark matrix bleeds in from the bottom corner, almost like ink dropped into water and caught mid-motion. Frozen. No amount of hunting would find another one that looks quite like this.

White buffalo is a rare stone. It is not technically turquoise, though it is often grouped with it. No copper, no blue or green, just this clean white mineral with its dark veining. That absence of heavy metals gives it a different kind of energy than most stones in the turquoise family. Lighter. Clarifying. It has long been associated with purification, with releasing what is no longer yours to carry, with the kind of quiet that opens up when you stop bracing for what comes next. People reach for the white buffalo when they are ready for something to shift.

The setting came together the way good things do: slowly, with intention, and with a little bit of instinct. Sterling silver shaped into something asymmetrical and alive, botanical in the way a forest floor is botanical, not arranged but grown. A single leaf curves in from one side like it arrived on its own. Dew drops arc along the base of the stone, catching light the way morning does. A rope border holds the bezel, and a small sculptural accent rests on the left, just enough detail to reward a second look. Turn it over and the back has its own story: leaf forms pressed quietly into the silver. Even the parts no one sees were made with care.
